Talk About Loyalty?

Ever since my family and I moved to South Bend, one of the main staples has been Mike Collins as the public address announcer for Fighting Irish football games. As a loyal alum, Collins has been a huge supporter of Irish athletics and has been a great role model for the community. He has been a familiar face in South Bend TV news for 40 years. From 1967 to 1994, Collins was a reporter, then anchor and news director at WNDU-TV. He has been with WSBT since 1995 and its news anchor since 1996.

He just recently did his last broadcast on WSBT on Nov. 30th of 2007. What WSBT and Schurz Communications wants you to believe is that Mike was retiring and calling it quits on his television career. Well that is absolutely far from the truth!

Right from the horses mouth, Collins was asked by WSBT and Schurz that he either resign gracefully or be fired. Obviously Collins took the high road and is now going on to bigger and better things. What makes this even more ridiculous is the fact, that the day after Collins did his last broadcast, his subscription to the South Bend Tribune (another Schurz Communications owned subsiderary) was cancelled!

Schurz communications is almost as bad as ESPN. What's next, Dana Jacobson is the new host of Irish Sports Report?
